Measurements/ Conversions

One thing I love about cooking/baking is the math. I love math and science since I was a girl. However I have found myself needing to use both metric and english style measurements because here in the US we use English style but about 90% of the rest of the world use metric. Personal I like metric, being divisible by 10 is a lot easier to figure out.

There was this fish and chip recipe I wanted to try but all the measurements were metric and I had no clue how much that translated into the English system. I had to spend sometime trying to figuring out the new measurements. After all that work the fish turned out great, reminded me of this place my family and I use to get fish and chips from during Lent when I was younger. 🙂 I wish I kept the recipe or could at least remember where I put it.

Anyways I realized I can’t be the only person who has had this issue. I started to compile a list of commonly used measurements. Between books and the web I think I have come up with a good list to start off with. I tried to cover everything from food to liquid to pan sizes and temperature. I hope this helps you as it does me. 🙂

There are a ton of food and conversion calculators out there on the web and not all work the same. Use them as a guide and not as the absolute. I would hate for your food to turn out wrong and all your hard work go down the drain. 🙂
